DESCRIPTION:The third annual tribute will showcase buildings throughout Miami-Dade County in rainbow-colored lights to honor and pay tribute to the victims\, families\, and friends of the Pulse nightclub shooting. \nMiami Beach Pride will once again pay tribute to the victims\, families\, and friends of the Pulse nightclub shooting through their third annual “Pride Lights the Night” event produced by Lincoln Road Bid. 2019 will be the 3rd Annual “Flip the Switch” and has become well known throughout the community. Light the Night’s goal is to light as many buildings in greater Miami in rainbow colors and graphics or flags to show support and solidarity for the LGBTQ community. \n“Pride Lights the Night” is a tribute to the individuals lost during the shooting at Pulse nightclub. Buildings and structures throughout the greater Miami-Dade County will be lit with rainbow colors\, fly rainbow flags\, or debut LGBTQ themed window displays. \nThis year’s “Pride Lights the Night” Honoree is Josean Garcia\, a survivor of the 2016 Pulse shooting. Garcia will “Flip the Switch” to light up the Herzog & de Meuron parking garage at 1111 Lincoln Road on April 1\, 2019 at 7 p.m.\, officially kicking off the event. \nJosean Garcia is a survivor of the Pulse nightclub shooting that occurred June 12\, 2016. Born in San Juan\, Puerto Rico\, Garcia is a recording artist who has written and recorded his own music since he was a sophomore in high school. He’s influenced by the love and support he received from long time best friends Amanda Alvear and Mercedez Flores\, both victims of the Pulse shooting. He also finds inspiration and drive from his mother who passed away from cancer just two months prior to the tragedy at Pulse. \n“Being the honoree for ‘Pride Lights the Night’ really proves that love wins.” said Garcia. “Our community has put up with so much hate\, but we still stand strong. I’m very honored to be part of ‘Pride Lights the Night’ because it’s so important to honor the victims from the Pulse shooting. We can’t let their names die in vain. We have to continue fighting for them.” \nGarcia wrote and recorded a song\, “Fly Away”\, as a tribute to victims of the Pulse nightclub shooting. \n“I wrote ‘Fly Away’ while I was in a very dark place\,” Garcia said. “For a long time\, I pushed all my fears and feelings away and nothing put my mind at ease except for writing and making music. One day\, I let my guard down and thought about what I witnessed that night. I created the song ‘Fly Away’ in response to that.” \n“We started ‘Pride Lights the Night’ as a way to honor and remember our community members that were lost in this terrible tragedy\,” said Bruce Horwich\, Miami Beach Pride’s board chairman. “As we commence our third annual tribute event\, we hope that the rainbow-colored lights that will be highlighting buildings throughout the county will help people stop and remember the brave individuals we lost that night\, and the importance of continuing our fight for equality and safety.” \n

Miami Beach Pride organizes free\, safe\, quality\, mass-appeal events that are open to all\, including the annual parade and festival\, which features community booths and expo areas\, stages with entertainment\, food and drink vendors and family-safe play areas. Additionally\, Miami Beach Pride produces educational\, cultural and entertainment events and activities throughout the year and sanctions official Pride-related events in order to create a truly celebratory experience for the whole community. \nSince its inception in 2009\, Miami Beach Pride has grown from a neighborhood event to an event on the global stage with A-list celebrities such as Gus Kenworthy\, Betty Who\, Ross Mathews\, Bebe Rexha\, Mario Lopez\, Elvis Duran\, Iggy Azalea\, Jordin Sparks\, Gloria Estefan and Adam Lambert. Attendance has grown as well. An estimated 15\,000 spectators turned out for the first Pride parade in 2009; an estimated 145\,000 attended the event in 2018. In addition to Parade spectators\, last April’s event included more than 70 parade contingencies\, 35 floats and 3\,000 participants.

It’s also an opportunity for us to advocate for the important\, often life-saving work the It Gets Better Project and its affiliates are doing on a daily basis on behalf of LGBTQ+ youth. In 2018\, this work on behalf of youth included: \nThe launch of It Gets Better Project’s new education program\, It Gets Better EDU\, which converts popular It Gets Better media content into guides and special presentations for the classroom. \nIt Gets Better Project’s first LatAm Summit in Bogota\, Colombia. These summits are opportunities for members of the Project’s Global Affiliate Network to connect and discuss global issues impacting LGBTQ+ young people. \nThe launch of a new affiliate in Argentina. SUMMARY:Beaux Arts Festival of Art
DESCRIPTION:The 69th Annual Beaux Arts Festival of Art takes place on the grounds of the University of Miami in Coral Gables\, Florida on January 18th and 19th\, 2020. Each year\, thousands of patrons visit the festival to view and to purchase original artwork from approximately 220 juried exhibitors. Cash awards totaling over $20\,000 will be presented to juried artists across ten categories as well as to the winners of the Student Artist Showcase which features art from students all over Miami-Dade County. The Festival of Art is free to the public and offers live eclectic music\, children’s art experiences\, fabulous dining options\, and free admission all weekend to the Lowe Art Museum. \nThe Beaux Arts Festival of Art is run entirely by Beaux Arts Miami\, a volunteer support organization of the Lowe Art Museum at the University of Miami. The first festival\, originally called the Clothesline Sale\, was held in the spring of 1952 in order to give young artists a chance to meet the buying public. The festival became an annual project\, and is now a juried show recognized as one of the leading art shows in the country. Proceeds from the Beaux Arts Festival of Art go to the Lowe Art Museum for the purposes of funding exhibitions\, capital improvements\, children’s programming (including Art and School Camps and Hands On Community Outreach) as well as acquisitions for the museum’s collection.
